The Harmony Mountain Story

Two  couples,  Al and Dana Henderson; and Tom and Denise Cox
met at the “Cherry Log Pickin’” organized by Al and Dana years ago.

They realized their common interest in performing and preserving
Southern mountain music with emphasis on harmonies with
traditional instrumental treatments.

Harmony Mountain includes stand-up, acoustical Bass ( Al), bowed
and lap dulcimer (Dana), Mandolin (Denise) and Guitar and Banjo
(Tom).

They have composed new arrangements for Old Hymns, mountain
and celtic tunes as well as original material including clean comedy.
Al Henderson (Upright bass)

Al, who has played bass with several groups, started playing bluegrass
in the 1970’s, then put his music on hold while raising four children with
his wife, Dana.

For the past four years, Al and Dana have been back on the bluegrass
fast track, playing their own music as well as hosting the Bluegrass
Pickin’, a weekly bluegrass/old gospel jam in Ellijay, Georgia.

In addition to hosting the weekly jams at Ellijay, Al is also VP of the
Southeastern Bluegrass Association’s Ellijay chapter and hosts of SEBA’
s monthly jams.
Denise Young Cox (mandolin)

A native of Ellijay, Denise began singing in churches and revivals at
age two and a half with The Eugene Young Family.  She sings lead and
harmony and plays the mandolin.
Tom Cox (Guitar)

Tom began playing guitar in high school, was lead guitar and vocals for
The New Folk, the national traveling tour group for Campus Crusade for
Christ. He plays lead guitar, banjo and sings lead and harmony.
Dana Henderson (Appalachian lap and bowed dulcimers)

Dana was first introduced to bluegrass by her future husband, Al. Much
later, after the nest had emptied, she fell in love with the dulcimer and
joined the Blue Ridge Dulcimer Players.

In addition to hosting the weekly jams at Ellijay, Dana and Al are also VP’
s of the Southeastern Bluegrass Association’s Ellijay chapter and hosts
of SEBA’s monthly jams.
